Red Lights

I have a silly question: Do you ever sit at a red light while you are driving and stare at the jewelry on your hands? Well, I do! I feel funny writing this - but I find myself doing it more often than not.

It calms me...

When I am tired or burnt out from the day, month or year (ha! ha!) and I am running errands around town - I find myself sitting at red lights completely zoned into a turtle bracelet full of candy colors or the chunky aquamarine ring on my middle finger. I notice that I find myself doing this more so when I am wearing colored stones verses all metal pieces. There must be something soothing or some kind of "chemical thing" for the mind when it stares at colors. At least with my mind! :)

One of the things I love about wearing my jewelry is the meanings come back to me aaalllll the time! Just like when I am sitting at a red light and find myself staring into that turtle bracelet - then I remember what the little turtle is all about (slow down and enjoy life). That usually causes me to sigh, which is a form of deep breathing - right? Which is like yoga - right? So then I laugh to myself because that bracelet has helped me gather some well needed oxygen into my lungs which is really good for me!!

The Real Housewives of New Jersey

Dina Manzo on "The Real Housewives of New Jersey " (Bravo Channel) was wearing our 18k gold and diamond "Grandma Lola" Ladybug Bracelet.

It turns out that Dina, a lovely lady on the show "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" started a charity called "Project Ladybug." The Foundation uses all proceeds to help children with terminally ill diseases. I was so excited to see her wearing our ladybug bracelet for multiple reasons:

1) Dina is a darling lady doing a great thing!

2) I love that bracelet! I have it too!

3) Ladybugs are soooo cute!

All silliness aside, the most important reason being that Saint donated to the Project Ladybug many years ago when if first got started. I will never forget, we had a customer at the Neiman Marcus Short Hills, New Jersey store who had a friend whose daughter was very ill. The little girl wore out tiny ladybug necklace to all her appointments. Knowing that my little ladybug necklace was this innocent child's prayer bead through something so scary made me feel so honored and at the same time helpless - I wished that I could do more. Her mother contacted us directly and it was from there that we donated to Project Ladybug Foundation (based in New Jersey). The association of this child and the foundation has always stayed with me.

I am so happy to see that the foundation is doing well and is successful. Dina - if this blog comes your way...you are awesome!!

Where'd The Butterfly Go?

As many of you know I am a mother of two children. My husband Art and I are fully enjoying the experience of raising our two year old daughter Lily and our eleven month old son Jack. Without a doubt, each day something occurs around here that is a great "story" to share with our family. It is a very busy time in our lives - whew!

This summer I am spending time trying to teach my daughter Lily how to swim (with some resistance).

Yesterday a beautiful yellow and black butterfly flew over us while we were dilly dallying in the pool. Lily and I both got soooo excited!! Why is it that whenever we humans see butterflies - we smile? We laugh? We reflect? We lighten up a little? What is it about butterflies that holds our eyes and our hearts captive?

Lily and I watched as this gorgeous winged insect gracefully fluttered above us and then off into the mountain landscape...then appearing again only moments later. I felt like a child again, anxiously waiting for it to return so we could watch together in wonder. What is it like to carry such colorful wings and to glide around so weightlessly?

It seems like everyone has a connection to a butterfly in one shape or form. We all have a butterfly story that touches our soul. A favorite butterfly story of mine is when Lily saw her first butterfly. After that first sighting, my husband Art and I were asked a minimum of twenty times a day "where'd the butterfly go?" So much so, that now when we cannot find something we teasingly say "where'd the butterfly go?" Art even wrote a poem titled "Where'd The Butterfly Go?" I won't embarrass him amd rewrite the whole thing but it is the sweetest gathering of words. Here is an excerpt:

Where'd the butterfly go?
Is he on the mountain?
Or is he in the fountain?

Where'd the butterfly go?
Is he on the spaghetti?
Or is he in the ravioli?

Where'd the butterfly go?
Is he in the shower?
Or resting on a flower?

Cont'd...

For myself, butterflies ignite youth, light heartedness, laughter and freedom. Experience seeing a butterfly with your child for the first time and it is a slice of heaven that you just can't put into words.
