Why The Name Saint?

A common question that myself or anyone working with Saint gets routinely asked is "why is the collection named Saint?"

It is a good question and when I look back to the genesis of Saint, I ask myself "why was it so important for me to come up with a name that wasn't my own?"
First of all, the idea of coming up with a name for a collection that isn't your own name is in itself an exciting creative process. I remember brainstorming for a name and I also remember what an enriching process it was in helping me establish and identify the company brand. I think without the brand name the identity of the collection would not be as linear as it is today. We know who we are. We know what we create. We know our standards.

With much deliberation, we (my parents and I) all agreed on the monosyllabic name "Saint." WHY??? First and foremost it exudes a feeling of strength and integrity. The word Saint describes someone who is or has done something above and beyond good. Saint is a reminder to aspire to be better than you already are, to excel and succeed.

Graphically it was very strong.

It was in my heart to create a collection that was able to balance being timeless in style, sophisticated, meaningful enough to be worthy of passing through generations, well constructed and substantial, while at the same time being able to humorously add delicate touches of whimsy. Knowing this, I liked how the word Saint had both a yin and yang quality to it, in that it is very strong and innocent.

I still feel that the name Saint and the jewelry reflects all that it set out to be. We are 14 years in business and the name still runs strong and it still coincides naturally to our collections.

Statement Ring

If I were to choose one piece of jewelry to invest in this fall it would have to be a statement ring. I realize that statement necklaces and bracelets are "oh so of the moment" for this fall season - but - I would put my money into a gorgeous over- sized ring. Be it in all metal or with a chunky gemstone, the statement ring is where my heart falls. I love the look of a big, obnoxiously loud ring on the hand. I think it looks fabulous to wear an amazing statement ring with absolutely no other jewelry - to me that is a very bold and strong fashion look. However it is fun to be more artsy and combine that chunky ring with a bunch of bracelets or a strong looking necklace. Which ever way you choose, you can't go wrong with a statement ring. I think it is such a great purchase because it will almost always go well with jeans, cocktail, formal or career clothing. It is a wonderful signature item that people will relate to you. Our hands are such an important part of the way we communicate, adding a statement ring to your hand can create a wonderful story.

Saint By Sarah Jane has a wide assortment of statement rings in sterling and 18k gold and gemstones. Please take a moment and view our assortment at http://www.saintbysarahjane.com/Store/FilterCategory/Jewelry_Type/Rings?FilterBy=&PriceRange=&SortBy=&Page=ALL

A Salute to Single Parents

Today I recieved the nicest email from a lady who is a single mom of two children. She explained to me that she is having a hard time right now and facing many obstacles in her life. She wrote me to tell me that she was hoping to buy a Saint bee bracelet from me over the weekend as she thought I was going to be making a personal appearence in her city. Well, unfortunately I am not going to be in her city and we aren't going to be able to meet face to face.

I was so touched by the note she sent me. It didn't give too many details but it caused me to sit back in my chair and think about all the amazing single moms (and dads) that are handling "it all" day in and day out. What an amazing task to manage.

I was in one of my "favorite stores" the other day here in Phoenix at the Biltmore called "Cornelia Park." It is basically a MacKenzie-Childs store. I LOVE MacKenzie-Childs! Like Saint, when I see it - it makes me smile and feel good. All that creativity and color and thought going into their collections just sends me spinning!! Anyway, when I was leaving I introduced myself to a sales associate who has been there since the day I set foot into the store for the first time. I told her that I was so embarassed, I should know her name by now! She happily responded "I know you! You were one of our brides." I was so suprised. Those feelings of being "a bride to be" are loooooooooong gone. I shouted back from the other side of the store "And I am still married!" The whole store started laughing. Probably not a typical response!

When thte store I left I started thinking about my partner and how sometimes it is challenging to make EVERYTHING WORK TOGETHER. It isn't easy. What a challenge it would be to carry all the load alone. To make big decisions about my family by myself or to not have a partner/friend to help pick up the slack when I feel I have nothing left to give.

I would like to salute all the single moms and dads. You are doing a great thing - an extremely wonderful and enduring thing. If they don't realize it now, someday your children will know how much you do out of love for them. God bless.
